To replace a tag and its inner content in Beautiful Soup, use the replace_with(~) method.

Example

Consider the following HTML document:

my_html = """
<div>
<p>Alice</p>
</div>
"""
soup = BeautifulSoup(my_html)

To replace <p>Alice</p> with <b>Bob</b>:

div_tag = soup.find("div")
p_tag = soup.find("p")

# Make a new tag
new_tag = soup.new_tag("b")
new_tag.string = "Bob"

p_tag.replace_with(new_tag)
div_tag
<div>
<b>Bob</b>
</div>
