Python's abs(~)
method returns the absolute value of a number. For complex numbers it returns the magnitude.
Parameter
1. x
| int
, float
or complex
The number to return absolute value for.
Return value
The absolute value of a number. For complex numbers it returns the magnitude.
Examples
To return absolute value of -5
:
x = -5abs(x)
5
To return absolute value of -25.21
:
y = -25.21abs(y)
25.21
To return the magnitude for complex number 4 - 3j
:
z = (4 - 3j)abs(z)
5.0
Note that this is a magnitude rather than an absolute value.
