Pandas DataFrame.index property returns an Index containing the index names of the DataFrame.

Examples

Consider the following DataFrame:

df = pd.DataFrame({"A":[1,2], "B":[3,4]}, index=["a","b"])
df
   A  B
a  1  3
b  2  4

To get the index names as an Index:

df.index
Index(['a', 'b'], dtype='object')
