PySpark SQL Functions' concat(~)
method concatenates string and array columns.
Parameters
1. *cols
| string
or Column
The columns to concat.
Return Value
A PySpark Column (pyspark.sql.column.Column
).
Examples
Concatenating string-based columns in PySpark
Consider the following PySpark DataFrame:
+-----+------+|fname| lname|+-----+------+| Alex| Wong|| Bob|Marley|+-----+------+
To concatenate fname
and lname
:
If you wanted to include a space between the two columns, you can use F.lit(" ")
like so:
F.lit(" ")
is a Column
object whose values are filled with " "
.
You could also add an alias to the returned column like so:
You could also pass in Column
objects intead of column labels:
Concatenating array-based columns in PySpark
Consider the following PySpark DataFrame:
+------+------+| A| B|+------+------+|[4, 5]| [6]|| [7]|[8, 9]|+------+------+
To concatenate the arrays of each column:
