We can check whether a value is in a list in Python using the in operator or alternatively we can check whether a value is not in a list using the not in operator.

in operator

To check whether 'banana' is a value in list fruits:

fruits = ['apple', 'banana', 'pear', 'orange']
'banana' in fruits
True

To check whether 'grape' is a value in list fruits:

'grape' in fruits
False

not in operator

To check whether 'banana' is not a value in list fruits:

fruits = ['apple','banana','pear','orange']
'banana' not in fruits
False

To check whether 'grape' is not a value in list fruits:

'grape' not in fruits
True
