To remove characters from columns in Pandas DataFrame, use the replace(~) method.

Consider the following DataFrame:

df = pd.DataFrame({"A":["a","ab","cc"]})
df
A
0 a
1 ab
2 cc

To remove all substring "a" from column A:

df["A"].str.replace("a","")
0
1 b
2 cc
Name: A, dtype: object

To remove all substrings "a" or "b":

df["A"].str.replace("[ab]","")
0
1
2 cc
Name: A, dtype: object

Here, [ab] is regex and matches any character that is a or b.

To remove substrings from Pandas DataFrame, please refer to our recipe here.
