Consider the following DataFrame:

import pandas as pd
df = pd.DataFrame({'A':[2,3,4]})
df
A
0 2
1 3
2 4

Solution

To insert a list into a Pandas DataFrame cell, ensure the type of the column is object, and then use at or iat property to insert the list:

# Convert column A to object type - this is a must
df['A'] = df['A'].astype('object')
df.at[1,'A'] = [5,6]
df
A
0 2
1 [5, 6]
2 4

Explanation

To insert lists into a Pandas DataFrame cell, we must first ensure that the type of the column is object. This is because a column is represented using Series, which can only hold one data type. This means that integers and lists cannot be mixed together. As a workaround, we can make the column type as general as possible by setting it to object.
