Python's str.isalnum() method returns a boolean indicating whether all characters in a string are alphanumeric (i.e. alphabet letter (a - z) or number (0 - 9)).

Parameters

No parameters.

Return value

A single boolean indicating whether or not all the characters in a string are alphanumeric.

Examples

Alphanumeric

To check whether all characters in 'SkyTowner123' are alphanumeric:

x = 'SkyTowner123'
x.isalnum()
True

Not alphanumeric

To check whether all characters in 'Sky Towner 123' are alphanumeric:

y = 'Sky Towner 123'
y.isalnum()
False
False

The space character is not alphanumeric hence False is returned.

To check whether all characters in 'SkyTowner!123' are alphanumeric:

z = 'SkyTowner!123'
z.isalnum()
False

The ! character is not alphanumeric hence False is returned.
