The above sample table can be created using the code here.

Basic usage

To return the name of the weekday that current students enrolled on:

SELECT fname, DAYNAME(day_enrolled)
FROM students;
+----------+-----------------------+
| fname | DAYNAME(day_enrolled) |
+----------+-----------------------+
| Sky | Thursday |
| Ben | Wednesday |
| Travis | Tuesday |
| Arthur | Friday |
| Benjamin | Wednesday |
+----------+-----------------------+

To return name of weekday from a datetime:

SELECT DAYNAME('2020-04-12 06:05:55');
+--------------------------------+
| DAYNAME('2020-04-12 06:05:55') |
+--------------------------------+
| Sunday |
+--------------------------------+

We now know that 12 April 2020 was a Sunday.
