Examples

String context

To return the current time in the session time zone:

SELECT LOCALTIME();
+---------------------+
LOCALTIME()
+---------------------+
2020-04-16 16:01:50
+---------------------+

Numeric context

To return the current time in the session time zone as a number:

SELECT LOCALTIME() + 0;
+-----------------+
LOCALTIME() + 0
+-----------------+
20200416160236
+-----------------+

Fractional seconds

To specify the fractional seconds precision:

SELECT LOCALTIME(6);
+----------------------------+
LOCALTIME(6)
+----------------------------+
2020-04-16 16:03:21.814470
+----------------------------+

We can see that microseconds (part after the .) is returned to 6 digits precision.
