The above sample table can be created using the code here.

Basic usage

To return last day of the month for each student's enrollment date:

SELECT fname, LAST_DAY(day_enrolled)
FROM students;
+----------+------------------------+
| fname | LAST_DAY(day_enrolled) |
+----------+------------------------+
| Sky | 2015-12-31 |
| Ben | 2016-04-30 |
| Travis | 2018-08-31 |
| Arthur | 2016-04-30 |
| Benjamin | 2014-01-31 |
+----------+------------------------+

Invalid date input

If the argument is not a valid date, NULL is returned:

SELECT LAST_DAY('2020-04-31');
+------------------------+
| LAST_DAY('2020-04-31') |
+------------------------+
| NULL |
+------------------------+

The date input is invalid as April only has 30 days.
