Numpy's fromstring(~) method constructs a Numpy array from the specified string.

Parameters

1. string | str

The string that will used to construct the Numpy array.

2. dtype | string or type | optional

Type of data stored in the Numpy array. By default, dtype=float.

3. count | int | optional

The number of data to read from the beginning of the string.

4. sep | string

The separator that is used to divide up the elements in the input string. The default value is deprecated so always specify this parameter.

Return value

A Numpy array with the data-type as specified.

Examples

Basic usage

To read space-separated format:


        
        
            
                
                
                    np.fromstring("4 5.6", sep=" ")
                
            
            array([4. , 5.6])

Specifying the count

To read only the first two data-points, set count=2 like so:


        
        
            
                
                
                    np.fromstring("4,5,6,7", count=2, sep=",")
                
            
            array([4., 5.])
