NumPy's vsplit(~) method vertically splits the input array. A nice way of thinking about this for 2D arrays is is to imagine chopping the array horizontally.

NOTE

The method vsplit(~) is just shorthand for split(~, axis=0). For more flexibility, you may want to use the split(~) method instead. Click here for its documentation.

Parameters

1. alink | array-like

The input array that you want to split.

2. splitlink | array-like

The number of splits to make.

Return value

A list containing the split up Numpy arrays.

Examples

Basic usage

Consider the following 2D array:


        
        
            
                
                
                    a = np.array([[1,2,3],[4,5,6],[7,8,9]])
a
                
            
            array([[1, 2, 3],
       [4, 5, 6],
       [7, 8, 9]])

To split a into individual rows:


        
        
            
                
                
                    np.vsplit(a, 3)
                
            
            [array([[1, 2, 3]]), array([[4, 5, 6]]), array([[7, 8, 9]])]
