Numpy's mgrid property uses [] syntax to create a mesh grid, which is often used to draw contour plots of 3D curves. This is covered in detail in our Numpy's meshgrid(~) documentation here.
Examples
To create a 4 by 4 mesh grid:
        
        
            
                
                
                     np.mgrid[0:4,0:4]
                
            
            array([[[0, 0, 0, 0],        [1, 1, 1, 1],        [2, 2, 2, 2],        [3, 3, 3, 3]],       [[0, 1, 2, 3],        [0, 1, 2, 3],        [0, 1, 2, 3],        [0, 1, 2, 3]]])
        
    We could also specify an interval like so:
        
        
            
                
                
                     np.mgrid[0:4:2,0:6:2]
                
            
            array([[[0, 0, 0],        [2, 2, 2]],       [[0, 2, 4],        [0, 2, 4]]])
